Young Leicester City hope Aman Verma set to take on his mentor
Verma is expected to appear for City reserves at Kings Lynn – and it was Linnets boss Carl Heggs who recommended Verma to City after working with him for 18 months at Redditch United.
"I'm glad I've been able to contribute to his new life," said Leicester-born Heggs, whose own playing career includes stints at West Brom, Carlisle and Hinckley.
"Aman's got the right temperament and attitude but his greatest strength is his enthusiasm. He wants to be better than he was yesterday."
Verma initially signed a six-month contract with City in December last year, and the Humberstone 21-year-old impressed enough to land a one-year deal at the Walkers Stadium.
He has appeared twice for City already this week – in last Saturday's 3-1 win at Loughborough Dynamo and the 2-2 midweek draw at Hinckley United.
Heggs spotted Verma playing on Victoria Park for (Alliance League) Premier Sports and took him to Redditch before he contacted City No.2 Craig Shakespeare, former reserve-team boss at West Brom.
Heggs said: "I could see a player with loads of ability who needed direction and it was just the case of opening the door for him. The rest has been down to him."
The Linnets manager said he was overjoyed to be taking on City tomorrow.
"I've supported Leicester since I was a kid so it's great to see them coming to us," he said.
"I can't speak highly enough of the way they handled Aman's move.
"I want them to have a really good season.
"Most of the players I have are Leicester-based so that's where we will train during the week."
Heggs took over five weeks ago at a club who were demoted from the Blue Square Premier at the end of last season after failing to undertake a £250,000 upgrade to their council-owned Walks Stadium.
He has appointed former City midfielder Andy Johnson as his No.2.
Johnson made 22 starts for City in the 200-07 season.
Heggs said: "Andy had a year left on his contract here so with his experience it seemed sensible to appoint him as my assistant."
