Chris Weale has been fine addition to Leicester City ranks

In the summer, Nigel Pearson’s top  dilemma concerned the No.1  jersey.

Last season, City were forced into using six goalkeepers in all after a spate of casualties between the sticks.

Pearson’s decision not to recapture highly-rated Blackburn keeper Mark Bunn raised some eyebrows among the City support and the former Northampton man ended up on loan at Sheffield United.

Another of last season’s loanees to be overlooked was Fulham’s David Stockdale, who is expected to play for opponents Plymouth Argyle today.

It was a real surprise to many fans when Bristol City deputy Chris Weale pitched up at the Walkers Stadium and it gradually became clear that Weale was going to be Pearson’s first choice  in the Championship.

It has been an interesting few days for Weale, who will follow up Tuesday night’s return to Ashton Gate by opposing Stockdale at Home Park today.

One thing is clear – Weale has been a total success so far in his fledgling City career.

However, he does not appear to have yet reached the same levels of hero worship that Sunderland keeper Marton Fulop managed to garner during his spell on loan two years ago.

Weale is not as flashy as Fulop –  he has not had to be.

Our back four have performed heroically since August with only minor blips along the way.

But I think Weale is not a great communicator and fails to take command of situations on occasion  – but this has not been punished yet. To me, it is his only drawback.

Weale is a great shot stopper who makes very few mistakes and could be a permanent fixture in the City goal for many years to come.

All we can ask is for more of the same.
