Berner happy to be back on board

Bruno Berner has spoken of his relief to be back in action for Leicester City after five weeks on the treatment table.

The Swiss defender made his comeback last Saturday after picking up a calf strain against Sheffield Wednesday in December.

The popular left-back produced a superb performance against Newcastle United to signal his return to the first team, and he admitted he found his spell on the sidelines frustrating.

Berner tried to make two comebacks but his calf injury flared up again, forcing him to be patient.

"It is very good to be back," he said.

"I had two setbacks. I was about to come on against Sheffield United on Boxing Day but I felt it again during the warm-up. That was the first setback.

"I just wasn't ready and my calf just wanted a bit more time. Maybe I pushed too much at the beginning. Sometimes your body gives you a few signs and you have to respect that and listen to your body.

"It was very frustrating for me. I worked hard and tried to maintain my fitness as much as possible. That is all you can do. But it is great to be back playing again."

Berner's return coincided with an excellent performance against Newcastle when City held the league leaders to a goalless draw despite being reduced to 10 men for an hour.

Berner believes the performance should give the squad plenty of confidence going into a vital month.

City face seven games in 21 days during February and Berner said it could be a pivotal sequence of fixtures.

"Let's roll on again now," he said. "We are desperate and determined to have a good February and get our promotion push back on track.

"We need more three-pointers and that is why the crowd was terrific against Newcastle.

"They were right behind us and it was so enjoyable to play."
