Leicester City players and staff pick best moments of 2009

It has been a fantastic year for Leicester City. After storming to the League One title, they have continued their momentum and are serious Championship play-off contenders. We spoke to City management and players about their best moment of 2009.

Nigel Pearson, manager: "Getting promotion. That was the goal at the beginning of last season, and to achieve it was not only satisfying, but allowed the club to move forward.

"You only have to look at clubs who have stayed in League One for more than one year. Leeds have been doing well this season but have been there too long, because it is hard to bounce back.

"Overall, there were lots of highlights for us but the main one would have to be regaining our Championship status."

Craig Shakespeare, assistant manager: "The promotion was a great achievement, and one that we are trying to build on. It is never easy getting out of League One, so to do it on the first occasion was a massive achievement. Everybody pulled together, the club, the supporters, and that would have to go down as the biggest achievement."

Lee Hoos, chief executive: "It goes back to the tail-end of last season and the game against Leeds, with Steve Howard scoring in the last minute. It's a goal I've watched over and over again. The game had intensity, drama and looked to be heading for a draw and then came that goal. It wasn't official, but you knew then that we had done it and were going back to the Championship."

Jack Hobbs, defender: "It has to be winning League One, for the sense of achievement. And it was a proud moment for my family and girlfriend who have supported me every week. It was nice to do it for them."

Chris Weale, goalkeeper: "It would have to be scoring a goal (against Hereford) when I was on loan at Yeovil. It probably might not happen to me again and it gave me a great buzz at the time."

Matty Fryatt, striker: "Winning the League One title and the way we have started off this season. As for goals, if I looked back I'm sure some would please me more than others, but it is always good to score and every one of them gives me pleasure."

Martyn Waghorn, striker: "It was probably my debut for City, against Swansea. We were 1-0 down and I came on and managed to score the equaliser and we went on to win. That was excellent and gave us a winning start to the season."
