Leicester City's Martyn Waghorn wants repeat goal against Scunthorpe

Saturday, February 13, 2010, 08:00

Scunthorpe United will be fully aware of the capabilities of Leicester City striker Martyn Waghorn today.

Waghorn is likely to replace injured striker Matty Fryatt as the spearhead of the City forward line against the Iron and he certainly will not be an unknown quantity to Nigel Adkins's side.

The 20-year-old scored a superb goal in the opening minutes of the first encounter between the two sides at Glanford Park earlier this season.

Although that game ended in disappointment for City as United scored a last-minute equaliser, Waghorn still has special memories of that day and aims to repeat the feat at the Walkers Stadium.

"I remember every second of that goal," he said. "It is one of my favourite goals.

"I remember Jack Hobbs flicked on a header and I just took it down on my chest, went one-on-one and slotted it in.

"Ultimately, it was a frustrating day because they scored in the last minute.

"But now it is a good chance for us to get the three points at the weekend and, if we can get an early goal, I can't see why we can't get the win."

Waghorn seems to specialise in special goals.

His five strikes this season have all been memorable, but now the on-loan striker, who is set for a lengthy run in the side, is determined to add the unspectacular poacher's goals that are the hallmark of all great strikers to his arsenal.

"I would love to score an easy goal and I don't seem to get an easy chance at the minute," he said.

"If I can get in the right positions, I am sure they will come and hopefully I will be able to take them."

He added: "I wish I could have scored a few more goals for the team. I had a good chance at Blackpool that I should have scored but hopefully I will get a few against Scunthorpe this weekend.

"After my suspension, it took me a while to get back into the team.

"On Tuesday, I got left out but that is part and parcel of the game.

"It was frustrating at the start of the season when I wasn't getting games but now I am really enjoying it.

"I am starting games, I feel like I am doing all right so I am just taking it as it comes and enjoying every minute of it."
