Martyn Waghorn hails the team spirit at Leicester City

Martyn Waghorn has hailed the team spirit within the Leicester City squad and believes it is the fundamental reason why they have made such a solid start to their Championship campaign.

The 19-year-old striker said he has been welcomed into the squad since arriving on loan from Sunderland in August and is enjoying the experience at the Walkers Stadium.

The England under-19 international is on loan until January. He has yet to make a first-team start in the league, but his superb substitute cameos, which include two goals, has prompted boss Nigel Pearson to reveal he would like to extend his stay.

Waghorn will, no doubt, be interested in an extended stay at City as he continues his football education.

"We have a great team ethic and that is why I think we are doing so well in the league," said Waghorn.

"After winning the League One championship, they have come up playing together and there have only been a couple of changes. It is an excellent atmosphere.

"I am learning to cope with situations in the heat of battle, winning and losing, it is a massive learning curve and I am really enjoying it."

Four points from their last two away games has certainly helped the mood within the City camp and Waghorn has played a significant part in that.

He came off the bench to score the equaliser against Coventry at the Ricoh Arena in City's last outing and is now planning to make another impressive impact after the international break when Derby County visit the Walkers Stadium.

"We are happy with four points from the last two games because they were tough ones," he said.

"To go to Middlesbrough and get a win was great and it is always hard at Coventry.

"We would have liked another win but as long as we don't lose too many away trips then we will be okay.

"It was frustrating to have a weekend off because we have done well in the last two away games and can't wait for the next game at home."

Levi Porter has returned to City after a one-month stay at Blue Square Premier Mansfield Town.

Porter made two appearances off the bench for the Stags and manager David Holdsworth said: "We would like to thank everyone at Leicester for giving us Levi for a month. We are always grateful for the support we get from clubs in the higher divisions when we loan players."
