Dyer had moved on from the Hawthorns to Millwall and then MK Dons where he featured in the side which gained promotion to League One at the end of the 2007-08 campaign. He made 92 appearances for the Dons as well as enjoying a Wembley win in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. But he revealed he was unhappy to be only offered a one-year deal at the Stadium MK and jumped at City’s three-year offer. Keeping the faith in Dyer seemed justified as City rolled over the opposition, with the wide man starring with a two-goal show in a 4-0 demolition job at Cheltenham Town. He also dedicated his late winner at Huddersfield to the memory of his cousin, Leon Lee, who had died a year earlier. Dyer never quite recaptured the form of the first half of the season and lost his place for a while.
