Carl Muggleton tips goalkeeper Chris Weale to take big chance with Leicester City
Weale is one of six summer signings by Nigel Pearson and will fill a position that gave City plenty of headaches last season.
Muggleton, who kept goal for the club between 1986 and 1994, hopes he can seize the chance.
"I saw him play while he was at Yeovil and I think he will be fine," said Muggleton.
"He will be under a little bit of pressure and know all about City's goalkeeping tradition. He also knows he has a great chance of establishing himself.
"City used six goalkeepers last season, so it is a good time for someone to come in and try to make the position his own. If he does that, he could be there for some considerable time."
Muggleton believes the fans will play an important part in helping Weale to settle in and said: "They are very knowledgeable about their keepers and I'm sure they will get behind him.
"What Weale needs is a good pre-season and a good start to the campaign. He has to take the crosses well, make his saves and, if he does that, he will become very confident."
Muggleton knows a thing or two about goalkeepers. He said: "Peter Shilton was the best, he was absolute quality. And I enjoyed working and training with Alan Kelly, the former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper.
"Mark Wallington was also outstanding, although I don't think he got the recognition he deserved, certainly not in terms of caps."
Now aged 40, Muggleton admits he has the best of both worlds, running a successful driving school and coaching part-time.
He said: "You want to stay in football as long as you can and working as Notts County's goalkeeping coach gives me that opportunity.
"This will be my second season with them and I'm really looking forward to it because we are fielding a youth team again.
"It will take a while to develop properly, but it is something to look forward to."
Maybe one day Muggleton may uncover a goalkeeper who could be up there with the best. One thing is for sure, he'll know when he sees him.
