James Vaughan tipped to be a big hit during Leicester City's play-off run-in
The 21-year-old signed on an initial one month loan from Everton yesterday and will go straight onto the squad to face Cardiff City at the Walkers Stadium tomorrow.
Vaughan surpassed Wayne Rooney when he became the youngest player to score in the Premier League when he netted on his debut against Crystal Palace aged 16 in 2005.
He was wanted by several clubs, including Derby County, but City have won the race to sign him and Pearson is delighted with his new acquisition.
"He is somebody who has been in our minds for sometime and, luckily, we have been able to get him," said Pearson.
"The circumstances have to be right, so it is great that we have been able to bring him in. It gives us even more options and he is a good player.
"He is very brave, quick, aggressive, a good competitor, and he wants to be successful.
"He has had a frustrating time with one or two injuries and some of those injuries are because he is so brave.
"He is an exciting prospect and we are delighted that Everton have allowed us to take him.
"He has been in and around their first team this season and he has been out on loan for a short period of time at Derby, but I just think he is the right type of player at this stage of the season.
"I came across him when I was involved with the England Under-21s and he is a player who is going to give us another really exciting option.
"He essentially plays through the middle but he can play as a wide striker as well, and he has played in that position before.
"Because of their European campaign and the number of injuries they have had, Everton have been reluctant to let him out, and I can understand that.
"It has to be right for both parties, but I would imagine they will see us as a good club to place him at for this end-of-season period where he will play in a side that has something to play for.
"They have one or two injured players who have returned to their squad so that has freed him up."
Pearson had stated that it might be difficult to bring in players on loan before the end of the season, but he did not rule out another new arrival.
The City boss also praised chairman Milan Mandaric for giving the deal the green light.
"I think the important thing is that we have been able to go out and do it," said Pearson.
"I have spoken before about the financial situation at the club and it is good that Milan has been able to facilitate this move.
"I am just very pleased that we have been able to get a player that we were unanimous would be a good player for us."
Mandaric pledged nearly two weeks ago that he would help Pearson bolster his squad for the final few weeks of the season, and he said Vaughan's arrival was proof he was true to his word.
Mandaric also revealed his close relationship with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright paved the way to bringing in Vaughan, who will provide cover for the injured Matty Fryatt.
"I said before I would do everything for the manager because he knows what he is doing," said Mandaric.
"I trust him, we think the same way and I have worked hard to accommodate him.
"I discussed with Nigel what we needed to make the difference.
"I have been in California working with Nigel and Bill Kenwright. It was important to get the player Nigel wanted.
"It was unfortunate to lose Matty but James is a proper player. It wasn't simple, the player was wanted by other teams.
"I have a good relationship with the Everton chairman and I said to him, 'my manager would like the player and your manager wants him to get additional experience so let's close the deal!'
"We said in mid-season that if we needed to make a move we would deliver it."
