Leicester City have belief to hit back from West Brom defeat – Bruno Berner

Bruno Berner has vowed Leicester City will prove they are promotion contenders by bouncing back after their disappointing defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

The versatile Swiss star said the City players were determined to give a good response in two weeks time against Plymouth Argyle to get their promotion push back on track.

For the second time this season, Berner could draw little consolation from his late strike as Leicester City slumped to defeat.

Just as he did in City's only previous home defeat in more than a year, against Preston North End, Berner was on hand to slam home a late goal to give City hope of a remarkable comeback but they were unable to grab the equaliser against West Bromwich Albion.

"The last time we lost to Preston at home, we bounced back immediately at Middlesbrough," said Berner, who was moved from left-back into the middle of midfield following injuries to Matt Oakley and Andy King.

"A top team always reacts well after a defeat and that is what we are going to do.

"That is what we are going to do against Plymouth in two weeks time.

"It is so far so good but there is so much more to come from us. We are up there but it is very tight.

"There are 30 games to go and we believe we can keep up with the leaders."

Berner said the injuries to Oakley and King, and the manner in which City conceded the first goal, knocked the stuffing out of them.

Graham Dorrans's free-kick in the 37th minute seemed to bobble along the ground, through a crowd of players, and catch goalkeeper Chris Weale completely by surprise.

"We are all very disappointed that we lost against a very good Championship team," said Berner.

"Up to the first goal we were the better side and we got more from the game, but it was a really bizarre goal we conceded. It didn't touch anyone and it was bizarre because it rolled all the way on the floor into the far corner. We have no explanation for that goal but it did break us a little bit.

"The two early subs were a factor as well. They are two very influential players in Kingy and Oakley. Our gaffer had to change a lot of things around in the first half.

"The gaffer told us at half-time we had nothing to lose. Early in the second half we had a brilliant chance to score, but we didn't.

"We all kept going and put in a very honest performance in the second half and tried to press. They played very cleverly around us, especially in midfield. But we did well in the second half.

"We always believe until the last second that we can turn things around if things aren't happening for us.

"We try to be winners every single game and in added-time you never know what is going to happen. There were five minutes of added-time.

"We always believed until the last second."
