Leicester City keeper Conrad Logan will be back on the bench

Leicester City goalkeeper Conrad Logan is resigned to returning to the bench for Saturday's Championship clash with Cardiff at the Walkers Stadium.

First-choice keeper Chris Weale will be fit to face the Bluebirds, despite needing five stitches in his nose following a collision with Marcus Tudgay during last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Logan was called into the action after 31 minutes at Hillsborough to replace Weale – his first competitive action for Leicester since May 2007.

City trailed 1-0 when he arrived on the pitch and the 23-year-old from County Donegal was powerless to prevent Wednesday extending their advantage after the break.

Logan has spent nine seasons at City since joining the club's Academy and, since 2004, has made just 20 starts.

He hoped to push his claim for a starting spot last season with two keepers, Paul Henderson and David Martin, both sidelined with injury. Instead, Pearson covered their absences with loan signings and Logan returned for a second loan spell at Stockport.

He had offers to leave the Walkers Stadium in the summer, but stayed to fight for his place.

He has been Weale's understudy throughout the campaign and impressed assistant manager Craig Shakespeare with his attitude and commitment.

Shakespeare said: "I don't think Chris's injury disrupted us because Conrad came on and didn't look phased.

"He produced a couple of good saves and didn't look rusty.

"That is testament to his professionalism and the work he has been doing with (goalkeeping coach) Mike Stowell.

"He has improved his conditioning by 60 or 70 per cent over the past six months with Mike.

"He deserved his chance and Conrad will not let anyone down if he is called upon again."

Logan said he had worked hard during the summer on his fitness and signed a two-year extension to his contract.

"I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and, if I'm called up to play again, I'll try to do my best," he said.

"I came on after 30 minutes on Saturday and it was all about being switched on and trying to take my chance."

Logan has been at the Walkers long enough to recognise City's promotion potential, despite Saturday's setback.

"We have a good mix of players who set high standards and it's been a good season so far," he said.

"The manager has put together a very good squad with a mix of youth and experience.

"But it's important to remember that even the younger players such as Andy King and Jack Hobbs have already played quite a lot of games, and that will help their development.

"The Wednesday defeat was a setback, but we've bounced back before and we will do again.

"We're not playing in midweek, which gives us a chance to regroup before the games start coming thick and fast again, and it's hell for leather towards the end of the season."
