Nigel Pearson wants Leicester City to end away-due blues

Leicester City must return to winning ways on the road if they are to stay in contention for the play-offs, manager Nigel Pearson believes.

City haven't won away from home since October 30 at Queens Park Rangers, and they have lost their last four on their travels. They have still to win a league game this year and their last Championship victory came on Boxing Day against Sheffield United.

However, Pearson believes last week's encouraging performance against Newcastle United, where they looked the most dangerous side for the majority of the game, despite having to play with 10 men for an hour, has given the players fresh confidence.

Pearson said that belief could prove to be the vital factor as City start a sequence of seven games in just 21 days.

"Let's be honest, we have had a difficult period of late," he said.

"I think last week's performance was important for us and we will take that into these next few weeks, because we have a lot of games coming up.

"We have a lot of away games and we need to start winning away from home, we know that.

"We have hit a bit of indifferent form in mid-season and it is important we come out of that.

"Last week's performance goes a bit of the way towards giving the players that belief in themselves again."

Pearson knows Blackpool will provide a stern test at Bloomfield Road, where they have scored almost as many goals as City have managed altogether this season.

Although they have only won one of their last seven home games, the Tangerines had won seven consecutive home matches earlier this season.

That excellent run has put Ian Holloway's side within a point of the play-off places and one point ahead of City, although Pearson's side have two games in hand on the Seasiders.

"You look at them and they have scored quite a few goals,'' he said. "I know they have come unstuck a couple of times but, generally, they are a difficult side to play against. Cast your mind back to when they came to our place and it was a tight game for us. It is important that we are at our best, or close to it."
