Nigel Pearson eyes play-off spot for Leicester City
The 3-0 victory over East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest at the Walkers Stadium atoned for the 5-1 defeat at the City Ground in December.
But, more importantly for Pearson, it increased City's cushion in the Championship play-off places to six points.
Goals from Bruno Berner, Paul Gallagher and Andy King also stretched City's unbeaten run to eight games and Pearson said his side have some valuable momentum going into a vital stage of the season.
"We have had a decent run of form since Christmas," said Pearson.
"Local derbies always have an edge and the fans will see it as the bragging rights and owing them one.
"But the bottom line is that it was an important game for us because, at this stage of the season, if you have some momentum you need to maintain it. I think we did that.
"I know the players have been consistently playing well this season and it is a big ask. When you come from League One to be doing what we are doing is a big ask and the players have to take a lot of credit for the level of consistency."
