Richie Wellens has already been hailed as Nigel Pearson’s most important summer signing for Leicester City.
The midfielder has been instrumental in City’s solid start to the Championship season and he brought a wealth of experience to the Walkers Stadium.
Wellens began his career at Manchester United in the company of the likes of John O’Shea, Luke Chadwick and Jonathan Greening.
He appeared in the Carling Cup but then gained regular first-team football at Blackpool and Oldham before joining Doncaster in July 2007.
The intelligent midfielder played a pivotal role in securing Rovers’ place in the Championship before they steadied the ship after a poor start to finish in mid-table at the end of last season.
His £1.2million switch to Leicester made him Doncaster’s most expensive sale and Pearson’s decision to splash the cash to acquire his services looks to be a smart piece of business.
